August/2008 Project Rescue Addiction Recovery Program Update
Dear brethren,
“For
a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many
adversaries.”
1 Corinthians 16:9
This passage describes the forces working in
Paul’s day for and against the furtherance of the Gospel.
Likewise, “a great and effective door has
opened” to us in Waycross, Georgia.
The Project Rescue Addiction Recovery facilities
(the duplex and apartment building) are now at full capacity with 11
men!
We are presently impacting families (mothers,
fathers, wives, etc.) and churches of Christ in Alabama, Texas,
Georgia, New Mexico, Florida, Indiana, South Carolina, and Ohio.
We want to increase!
We do not want to turn souls away who want help to overcome their
addictions.
The forces working against us
involve a lack of funds!
We appreciate the help we have received
from individual brethren and churches of Christ.
We need more help to take advantage of this
“great and effective door” God has opened for us.
We must now prepare to rent or buy additional
facilities to house those who call us for help.
Please continue to pray for us!
Please help us get the word out to churches of
Christ.
Point preachers, elders and members to our web
page at www.projectrescue.org
If you know a
member of the church who is struggling with addiction, tell them
about Project Rescue.
Please continue to help us
financially and increase it if you can.
Before updating you on the progress of
the men in our program, I want to share some additional
opportunities that have come our way:
Casey was recently shot in the head three times. This is what it took for God to finally get her attention. We studied with her and baptized her into Christ a couple of weeks ago. She has struggled for years with her addiction to crack cocaine. She still has one bullet lodged in the back of her head. Without a facility to house women, our efforts to minister to Casey are greatly hindered. For now, she is attending our church services and some of our classes.
Rob was recently released from prison and wants to change his life. I am in a weekly Bible study with him.
Paul has two children who he has not seen in four years. He is now willing to look to the Bible for help. He also has agreed to engage in a weekly Bible study with me.
There are many other lost
souls who are searching for the way out. We have the Gospel way out!
Chris has been with us 331 days. After 365 days he plans to return home to get his probation transferred from Alabama to Georgia. Bob & Chris obtained an occupational license today for their plumbing business. Chris’ parents are members of the church of Christ in Dothan, Alabama.
Beau has been with us 231 days. He is doing a great job with his 3-year old daughter Alice. She is enrolled in a school/day-care center. Beau is learning to balance his time between his responsibilities to Alice and his flooring business. He is also teaching a weekly Bible class to the men in the program. He is teaching Romans. Beau’s parents are members of the church of Christ in West Palm Beach, Florida.
David has been with us 76 days. He is doing a great job as our house manager. He is my eyes and ears when I am not at our facilities. He also helps with transportation and many other matters. David’s wife is a member of the church of Christ in Quitman, Georgia.
Randy has been in the program 137 days. He has decided to stay in Waycross for a while. He is searching for a job. He is doing a great job in his struggle with depression. Randy’s mother is a member of the church of Christ in Evansville, Indiana.
Ryan has been with us 112 days. He recently turned 21. He is working to balance his time between work and school. He is working for Beau during the day and going to school at night. He, like the others, is also required to attend all of our classes and meetings and complete his Bible assignments. Ryan’s parents are members of the church in Fernandina, Florida.
Kevin has been in the program 101 days. He decided to stay with us another 90 days. In November he plans to return home and begin to repair his marriage. Kevin is nearing the end of his detox off of the prescription medicine he was addicted to. His wife is a member of the church of Christ in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
John has been with us 85 days. He will graduate on Sunday from our 90-day program. He will return home to live with his parents. We baptized John! He has committed to continue in the faith with the church in Stuart, Florida where his mother is a member. We wanted more time with John. We pray he will remain faithful.
Travis has been back with us 22 days. Six months was not enough time for him in the program. He has now agreed to stay with us another 6-months. Travis illustrates how hard of a mission field we are in! Many who we help “escape” will become “entangled again” (2 Peter 2:20-22). So far, he has a good attitude regarding his Bible study assignments. His mother is a member of the church of Christ in Kerrville, Texas.
Bob has been in
the program 42 days.
He was baptized into Christ a couple of
weeks ago.
He has grown much spiritually!
He is a licensed plumber.
He recently completed the job of
changing-out our whole plumbing system in the apartment building.
This saved us thousands of dollars!!
We are helping to get Bob back in the
plumbing business in Waycross.
He and Chris now have their occupational
license.
Van has been with us 33 days. He has a strong hunger for Bible study and is learning much! He is also a hard worker. He begins his detox off of nicotine today. In one month he will be a non-smoker! Van’s mother is a member of the church of Christ in Bay Town, Texas.
Stephen has been in the program 8 days. He was living in Ohio but grew up in Texas. He is having a hard time adjusting to his new life here in Waycross. Stephen is Van’s nephew and his mother is a member of the Bay Town church of Christ in Texas.
As far as we know, Wes (who left our program after being with us 62 days) and Jeremy (who left after 44 days) are both doing well.
In His service,
